Proposed Bill Seeks To Raise Florida's Legal Smoking Age

A state lawmaker is seeking to raise Florida's legal smoking age.

Republican Senator David Simmons of Longwood has introduced a bill to raise the age a person can legally smoke from 18 to 21.

If passed, Florida would become the sixth state to raise the smoking age.

Opponents have argued that if an 18-year-old is able to make decisions such as getting married, serving in the military or vote, they should be old enough to decide to smoke.
