One Dead Following Small Plane Crash In SW Miami-Dade

One person is dead after a small plane crashed Sunday afternoon in southwest Miami-Dade County.

The Federal Aviation Administration said a Piper PA 60 aircraft crashed in a field west of Miami Executive Airport around 2:50 p.m.

The FAA said the pilot had just taken off and was returning to the airport after declaring an emergency when the plane crashed.

Police have not identified the pilot.

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating to determine what caused the crash.
