Tuesday marks the 10-year anniversary of a Florida mother and daughter being found dead outside of a popular shopping mall.
Boca police have put together a detailed summary of the unsolved tragedy on their Facebook page.
Forty seven-year-old Nancy Bochicchio and her 7-year-old-daughter Joey were found shot dead, bound, and blindfolded in the back of their SUV in the Town Center Mall parking lot just before midnight on December 12, 2007.
According to the family, on the day of the killings, Nancy had picked up Joey from school early that day, a Wednesday, to take her to a doctor’s appointment. Later, they had planned to meet with another family so Joey and her friend could go over lines for an upcoming Christmas play, where Joey would play a reindeer.
After Joey’s visit with the doctor, they stopped by the mall that afternoon, her family said.
According to police’s timeline:
- Nancy and Joey entered the mall around 2 p.m.
- At 3:11 p.m., they’re seen on surveillance video leaving the mall from the Sears entrance
- At 3:14 p.m., there was a call from Nancy Bochicchio’s phone to 911, but it immediately hung up
- A dispatcher called back within a minute but got no answer
- At 3:19 p.m., Bochicchio is seen on video surveillance withdrawing money from a nearby ATM
- “There appear to be people in the back seat of the car
- Police determined that right after the money was withdrawn, the SUV was back at the mall
- Just before midnight, a mall security guard noticed Bochicchio’s car parked near the south side of Sears at the mall
- Officers found Nancy and Joey dead inside of the vehicle
The killer... is still out there.
The Boca Raton Police Department is asking the public to watch the video, above, that breaks the case down and dispels some of the misinformation that's come out over the years.
What's police do believe is that an August 2007 kidnapping at Town Center of a mother and her son who were eventually freed, could be related.
In August, a woman went to the valet stand at Town Center Mall and said she had been carjacked and kidnapped by a person she described as being around 6-feet tall, possibly Brazilian, with a long ponytail, floppy hat, driving gloves, and glasses.
The reward for whomever is responsible has now reached $400,000.
“We’re still working this. We’re going to continue to work this,” says Police Capt. Matthew Duggan, whose agency has combed through more than 2,000 leads. “And if you know something, please come forward.”
