Man Arrested After 2-Year-Old Tests Positive For Cocaine

A South Florida man was arrested after a 2-year-old child tested positive for cocaine.

Sean Paul Mitropanopoulus was arrested Thursday on one count of child neglect in Riviera Beach.

A police report says the child was brought to St. Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach on Oct. 30 by a woman after concerns over the way the child was acting. Tests showed the child had ingested cocaine.

The woman's relationship with Mitropanopoulus is unknown, but she claims to have warned Mitropanopoulus over using drugs around the child.

A judge ordered Mitropanopoulus to undergo a drug screen after he refused to speak or be tested by detectives. He tested positive for cocaine and benzodiazepine.

According to the report, police don't know whether Mitropanopoulus administered the drug to the child in small amounts or whether the child had easy access to the drug at home.

The Florida Department of Children and Families is investigating the incident.
