Zoo Miami is celebrating a very rare occurrence -- For the first time in more than 25 years, an endangered crocodile called a false gavial has hatched at the zoo!
The false gavial crocodile was born Sept. 1 and was one of two that emerged from 25 eggs. The second hatchling did not survive.
The species comes from Indonesia and Malaysia and fewer than 2,500 are known to exist in the wild.
The parents are a female named "Nessi" and a male named "Lockjaw," Zoo Miami's largest crocodile at 14 feet long.
