BSO Deputy Hits, Kills Bicyclist In Pompano Beach

A Broward Sheriff's Office deputy struck and killed a bicyclist Tuesday in Pompano Beach.

Authorities said the deputy was responding to an alarm call when the crash occurred around 3 p.m. at North Dixie Highway and Northwest 15th Place.

The deputy was driving an SUV. Investigators do not believe that speed was a factor in crash. The deputy did not appear to have his lights and siren on before the crash, she said.

The man riding the bicycle was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Broward Sheriff's Office is expected to release the names of the victim and the deputy involved in the crash on Wednesday.

Deputies closed a portion of North Dixie Highway, which caused traffic delays Tuesday evening in the Pompano Beach area.
