Vid: This Is What Could Happen When You Deep-Fry A Turkey

With Thanksgiving Day right around the corner, Lauderdale-By-The-Sea fire officials are reminding the community of safety concerns when it comes to Thanksgiving dinner.

On Thursday evening, volunteer fire fighters hosted a demonstration of what happens when oil levels are too high when frying and if your turkey isn't completely defrosted (both are extremely important.)

When deep-frying a turkey, authorities also remind you to:

  • Deep-fry turkey at least 10 feet away from the house
  • Do not fry a turkey near trees or a wooded area, or on a wooden deck
  • Monitor the turkey's temperature throughout the process
  • Oil burns are serious -- once you begin the frying process, do not more the turkey/fryer until done

Most of all, authorities want to ensure a safe, happy and healthy Turkey Day!
