Important Headlines For Nov. 17

These are the stories you don't want to miss (but probably would if I didn't find them for you)...

My only nit to pick with this one is that the mandate isn't the only piece of Obamacare that should reside at the dump. The average American will be paying nearly 90% more for healthcare costs in 2018 than prior to the passage of the largest tax increase in American history - AKA the Affordable Care Act - AKA Obamacare. If all we did is throw the whole horrible thing into the dumpster we'd be better off. Until and unless we get the government and health insurance companies out of the way of the process we'll still be screwed. The only question is how much.

Alabama Republican and member of Congress Mo Brooks provides an especially forthright version of the case for sticking with Moore. “Who will vote in America’s best interests on Supreme Court justices, deficit and debt, economic growth, border security, national defense, and the like?” he asks, “Socialist Democrat Doug Jones will vote wrong. Roy Moore will vote right. Hence, I will vote for Roy Moore.” Isn’t this logic actually pretty compelling? As horrific as Moore’s personal character may be, why should his abuse of a small number of people matter more than decisions affecting 300 million people?

In general, this is a hit piece and something that I might otherwise put into the GSS category. After all the headline alone is outright slander. However, aside from the slander, there's compelling thought here. What is the actual reason that we vote for elected representatives? We vote for them to vote in our best interests. As of this entry even if every allegation against Roy Moore were true there's not a single charge that would/could be brought against him. Even the worst accusations, if true, are misdemeanors from 40 years ago. So here's the question from a conservative's viewpoint (which is the prevailing viewpoint in Alabama). Here's this guy who was extremely creepy trolling young girls/women and hoping to lure them into relationships forty or so years ago but he'll vote for tax reform and to repeal and replace Obamacare. Here's this other guy that's apparently not creepy and he'll vote against tax reform and healthcare reform. In that context who'd you vote for?

A new Vanity Fair column claims that the press has become complicit in Roger Goodell's shame.

It's ironic. The media has found itself in a bind. For years leftists in the media were pushing hard against the NFL hoping to lead to its demise on back of the CTE discoveries and general manly violence which disrupt the sensibilities of snowflakes attempting to figure out which one of the six genders they belong to. That was until it became about something they loathe more than manly violence on a football field. American patriotism. Roger Goodell became the guy that wouldn't allow four police officers murdered by a member of the racist hate organization "Black Lives Matter" to be honored by the Dallas Cowboys but would allow a quarterback to depict police officers as pigs on a football field along with rejecting the NFL's policy and the US Flag Code governing conduct towards the presentation of colors and national anthem.

So, the left has learned to appreciate Goodell. The enemy of my enemy is my friend after all.

Until Monday...
