Listening To Holiday Music Is Bad For Your Mental Health, Study Suggests

Deck the halls and fa la la la. Some people get into the holiday spirit and start celebrating with Hallmark movies and Christmas carols as early as November!

But hold the sleigh -- a new study suggests that holiday tunes could actually be detrimental to our mental health.

The American Psychiatric Association said about 61 percent of people experience stress during the holiday season.

New studies showed that hearing Christmas music can be psychologically draining, especially for people working in retail and those who have to listen to it constantly.

Clinical psychologist Linda Blair told Sky News: "It might make us feel that we’re trapped – it’s a reminder that we have to buy presents, cater for people, and organize celebrations."

She also adds that Christmas music is likely to irritate people if it’s played too loudly and too early.
