Former Monkey Jungle Employee Posts Pictures, Claims Disgusting Conditions

There are some wild circling allegations about the treatment of animals at Miami-Dade's Monkey Jungle.

A former employee posted photos online as evidence of animal abuse withing the establishment.

Melanie Lustig says the animals are kept in small tight spaces without good nutrition. She tells NBC 6 she stopped working at the establishment "because the conditions, in general, were abysmal ... for all the animals. The animal care never really came first there.”

Officials with Monkey Jungle have rebutted Lustig's claims, saying all animals are "well taken care of," particularly after the damage wrought by Hurricane Irma.

The Animal Rights Foundation of Florida has filed a complaint with the USDA calling for an investigation into “apparent violations” of the Animal Welfare Act. Inspection reports dating back to 2015 show no “non-compliant” violations.
