Boca Firefighters Assist In Knocking Down Fatal Blaze On Hawaiian Island

Two Boca Raton Firefighters assisting officials in Hawaii were unable to save a man's life.

Ryan Gerwig and Sean Hilla said they saw the fire erupt at the house in Kailua-Kona on Friday morning and sprung into action.

The two men kicked down the door of a home on the big island in an attempt to see if anyone was trapped on the first floor.

Even after attacking the fire with water, the men were unable to get past a wall of heat to rescue the currently unidentifed man.

Using the same water hose, they were able to save the neighboring house.

Once Hawaii Fire Department personnel arrived, the brothers stepped back and went on with their day. Hilla said they didn't think anyone was inside, but they learned of the death that evening.

The body of a man was discovered in the lower section of the house after the firefighters extinguished the blaze.

Police say the cause of the fire is under investigation.
