NSU To Host 'All Hands On Deck' Effort Against Opioid Epidemic

Just one day after the President's Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and Opioid Crisis passed its final report, local experts and lawmakers are coming together to tackle the problem.

Nova Southeastern University will host the 'United Stance Symposium' on Thursday evening. 

Local and state officials will join forces to combat South Florida's opioid crisis. The United Stance Symposium will host: 

  • Members of the DEA
  • The United Way of Broward 
  • State and local law enforcement
  • First responders
  • Physicians
  • Pharmacists 
  • Nurses
  • Rehab centers 
  • Administrators 
  • Researchers
  • Mental health specialists
  • Educators

NSU College of Pharmacy's Dr. Scott Kjelson tells WIOD that he feels we can solve this emergency and by establishing these relationships now, we will set the ground work for combating the next public health issues.

Tonight's 6:00 p.m. symposium at NSU's Steele Auditorium is open to the public.

The agenda includes a policy panel, medical panel, audience questions, and a patient panel with celebrity chef Louie Bossi.
