The Florida Wildlife Conservation Commission is warning boaters to keep an eye out for manatees.
Ron Mezich at the FWC says November is when the gentle giants start looking for warmer water.
"Florida is home to more than 6,600 manatees," the FWC said in a statement. "With the arrival of Manatee Awareness Month, people again are slowing down and looking out for these large aquatic mammals in waterways throughout the state."
Many seasonal manatee protection zones go into effect Nov. 15.
Though some manatee zone signs may have been damaged by Hurricane Irma, information on manatee zone locations may be accessed online.
Most of the migrating manatees are headed for freshwater springs where the water temperature is constant year-round.
They're also fond of the warm water discharged by power plants.
