FDA: Weed Doesn't Cure Cancer. STOP Saying It Does

The medicinal uses of marijuana are now widely accepted, but the Food and Drug Administration is reminding us that it’s no miracle cure.

The FDA has issued a warning to four companies that market marijuana products.

Marijuana does not cure cancer.

And, it does not promote the growth of new brain cells.

The FDA said in a statement: Beware of claims that any marijuana product is “anti-tumor,” or can help treat asthma, Alzheimer’s, arthritis, autism or bipolar disorder.

“We don’t let companies market products that deliberately prey on sick people with baseless claims that their substance can shrink or cure cancer and we’re not going to look the other way on enforcing these principles when it comes to marijuana-containing products,” said FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb.

The companies warned include:

  • CW (Charlotte’s Web) Botanicals
  • Natural Alchemist
  • Greenroads Health
  • That’s Natural Marketing and Consulting

They've each made unproven claims that their products treat cancer, the FDA said.

Not only are the claims not proven, but they could discourage patients from using treatments that will actually help them.
