Authorities Warn Of Marijuana-Laced Candy Ahead Of Halloween Festivities

Officials are warning parents to keep an eye out for marijuana-laced candy during next week's Halloween trick-or-treating festivities.

Authorities say edible marijuana candy can be masked to look like more traditional treats. Over the past few years, officials say it has become more popular as pot is generally more accepted around the U.S.

In May, a 10-year-old New York boy overdosed after eating a gummy bear candy laced with the drug.

And marijuana candy contains THC levels up to 90 percent, compared to the 20 percent found in marijuana vegetation, according to the New Jersey Department of Health.

Parents are urged to check candy for unusual packaging and contact police if items have a marijuana odor, and to wear vinyl or non-latex gloves if handling marijuana candy.
