Arrest Made In Fatal Stabbing Of Nuclear Engineer After Miami Party

A man is dead after being attacking at knife point upon leaving a party Saturday in Southwest Miami-Dade.

Thirty-three-year old Alexander Restrepo, who worked at Turkey Point Nuclear Generating Station, his brother Christopher and one other person went to a party in the area of Southwest 147th Street and 157th Avenue. 

According to authorities, they left the party just before 3 a.m.

According to Christoper Restrepo, the group was confronted by a group of more than a dozen men upon leaving. Words were exchanged during the confrontation. 

Authorities say the group kept walking, but the same individuals confronted them again. This time the situation escalated physically.

Christopher and Alex allegedly fought off the men, but the result was deadly. Alex, a Coral Reef High School and University of Florida graduate, was stabbed in the back numerous times.

Christopher’s hand was also slashed during the altercation.

Police say 24-year-old Edwin Rios is the killer. He is charged with second degree murder and attempted murder.

The arrest report did not specify whether Rios was the person who stabbed the victims, but only stated that he was involved in the physical altercation. 

A motive for the attack is unknown. 

Rios is being held without bond.
