Officials in Miami-Dade are searching for whomever is responsible for targeting peacocks and peahens with a BB gun in a South Florida neighborhood.
Neighbors near LeJeune Road and Lybyer Avenue in Coconut Grove said the birds stay in the trees at night, but during daytime hours, they wander the streets. However, it seems they're not entirely safe.
Throughout the past couple of months, several BB gun shootings (of the bird) have been reported. Officials say that at least one of the peahens did not survive.
There is no denying that some residents are annoyed with the birds -- with droppings on their lawns, but officials say that the shootings remain an act of animal cruelty.
Animal control officials said they cannot, by law, relocate the exotic birds.
Officials are now searching for whomever is responsible.
If you have any information on these shootings, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
