Hollywood Hills Rehab Center Dropped From Medicare Program Following Deaths

Federal officials are dropping a Florida nursing home from the Medicare program after 14 patients died amid Hurricane Irma.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services said in a statement Friday that the facility will be terminated "due to their failure to meet Medicare's basic health and safety requirements.''

Eight residents died on Sept. 13, after the facility lost power due to the storm. Others were evacuated.

Six more residents and patients have since died, which attorneys say are related to the conditions and evacuations from the center.

The state previously banned the center from the Medicaid program.

Company officials later announced they were closing permanently.
