A standoff in Brevard County ended early Thursday when a 16-year-old boy fatally shot himself.
Dozens of officers in West Melbourne responded around midnight to a home along Martin Lane near Hollywood Boulevard, after the boy's grandmother called 911 to report that he was throwing things, according to police.
Cops say the boy fired at police as they evacuated nearby homes. The officers were allegedly unable to return fire.
No one else was hurt.
Two individuals escaped from the home, authorities said.
The West Melbourne Police Department Strategic Response Team and Brevard County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team were at the scene.
Police believe the suspect died of a self-inflicted gunshot.
