Armed Carjacker Shot, Killed Following Miami-Dade Chase

UPDATE 1:00 p.m.

Police have identified Ernesto Padron as the wanted bank robber killed by police following pursuit Friday morning. 

Padron has criminal records in both Miami-Dade and Broward counties.

The suspect was shot by police and treated at the scene. He was pronounced dead a short time later

UPDATE 10:11 a.m.

A suspected carjacker has died after a standoff along the Miami River led to a police involved shooting.

According to Miami-Dade Police, the unidentified subject was shot and treated on scene. However, he did not make it.

The subject could be seen hanging on to a fence along the Miami River, as officers had their guns drawn and tried to get him to surrender.

Officers had the subject surrounded both on land and on water.

A suspected armed carjacker who dove into a Miami river is in custody after a lengthy standoff with police early Friday morning, authorities say.

The incident resulted in a police-involved shooting, according to Miami-Dade Police Department.

Police have located the armed carjacker in water near the Miami river.

Authorities are currently engaged in a police chase across Miami-Dade County with an armed carjacker.

The pursuit first began near 36th Street. 

The suspect was seen breaking through a railroad crossing near a scrap metal area by South River Drive.

The NBC 6 chopper captured the suspect ditching his vehicle, pulling out what appears to be gun and carjacking another driver.
