Early Morning Flames Force North Bay Village Residents Out Of High Rise

An early-morning fire has forced several families out of their home in North Bay Village.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to reports of heavy smoke at a North Bay Village apartment building around 5 a.m. Friday.

Crews determined the fire began on the fifth floor of an apartment building, possibly in the kitchen of one of the units.

"Anytime you're dealing with a high rise, the scope of the building, the size and the number of occupants is a huge life-safety factor," said MDFR battalion chief.

Residents were evacuated from their homes while officers battled the flames.

The fire was extinguished safely.

No injuries were reported during the blaze, according to fire officials.
