Lyft, a popular ride-sharing service, has paired up with the American Cancer Society to help South Florida cancer patients throughout the month of October.
During October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, cancer patients can get free rides to and from their doctor appointments.
“Access to care is a big problem in our country," said Megan Wessel, vice president for Regional Cancer Control of the American Cancer Society, in a release. "Therefore, transportation programs and partnerships like the one we are launching with Lyft... are vital for these patients to get the treatments they need and deserve.”
To request a ride, patients must go through the cancer society, which will use Lyft’s “Concierge” tool to request a Lyft driver.
The ride-sharing company has also added the American Cancer Society to its “Round Up & Donate” app feature for people who want to make a donation. Lyft will round up fares to the nearest dollar and then donate the difference to the nonprofit.
