The lawyer representing the Goldman family says O.J. Simpson's release from a Nevada prison will launch a renewed effort to collect from a 1997 civil jury award that held the former NFL star liable for the deaths of his estranged wife and her friend.
Attorney David Cook told CNN the $33 million Simpson was ordered to pay to the victims' families has since ballooned to almost $70 million -- with interest.
O.J. was acquitted by a Los Angeles jury in 1995 of murdering Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman in a criminal trial.
A civil jury later found there was enough evidence to hold Simpson accountable for their murders.
Only a fraction of the award money has ever been collected.
Simpson was released from the Lovelock Correction Center in northern Nevada early Sunday.
A State Division of Parole and Probation official says Simpson plans to live at home in the Las Vegas area for the foreseeable future. However, there are rumors that Simpson hopes to return to the Sunshine State when possible, to be near his family.
