The NHL Florida Panthers have canceled this weekend's game plan.
The Panthers were scheduled to be in a four-team prospect tournament in Estero, Florida (southwest) this weekend.
However, the team will close its offices on Thursday afternoon in anticipation of Hurricane Irma.
"We encourage our fans, staff and members of our community to prepare wisely and stay safe throughout the duration of this storm," said Florida Panthers President & CEO Matthew Caldwell. "Our strength as a community will guide us the through the difficult times ahead."
The Panthers' home arena, the BB&T Center in Sunrise, will be a tactical vehicle operation site for Florida Power and Light during the storm.
Following the storm, BB&T Center has been identified as a Broward County Logistical Staging Area. In a press release, BB&T Center notes that it "...stands willing and able to support any needs determined by the City of Sunrise and Broward County."
BB&T Center has established a hotline at 954-835-8911 for the most up to date information regarding BB&T Center.
