Miami-Dade Shelters To Open, No Mandatory Evacuations Ordered Yet

Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez has announced that four shelters, including a pet friendly shelter, will open to the public at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday. 

Mayor Gimenez asks that the shelters are used only as a last resort. 

Here is the full list of shelters in Miami-Dade County, from Miami-Dade.gov. Not every shelter will be open for every evacuation. Residents can dial 311 for evacuation information:

Northeast Miami-Dade County

Currently, the evacuation of 2,200 special needs residents is underway.  

Gimenez says that he has not issued any mandatory evacuations yet due to the fact that the storm has slowed and that officials have more time to assess the potential impact. 

Visitors to the area are being urged to cut their vacations short and leave the area.
