The Maritime and Coastguard Agency announced in a statement that while they have not figured out the exact cause of the chemical haze that engulfed Birling Gap beach in southern England last Sunday, shipwrecks are one of several possibilities, the BBC reports. "As part of our investigations we are considering a number of possibilities, such as discharges from a vessel, previously unreported lost cargo, and emissions from known shipwrecks," the statement read. The BBC says there have been "many shipwrecks" in the area.
