Irma Officially Declared Category 2 Hurricane

Forecasters have officially announced that Irma has formed into a Category 2 hurricane.

As of 11 a.m. Thursday, Miami's National Hurricane Center reported Irma had maximum sustained winds of 100 mph. 

Forecasters say Irma could become a category 3 storm by Thursday night.

There were no coastal watches or warnings in effect. 

Forecasters are not expecting any impacts to land over the next five days, but will continue to monitor its track and development.
