City commission officials in Hollywood will vote Wednesday on a proposal to change street names that currently honor former Confederate generals.
Commissioners will meet at 1 p.m. to vote on the controversial issue.
Protesters on both sides are expected to gather at Hollywood City Hall ahead of the meeting.
The street names in consideration include:
- Lee Street - named after former Confederate General Robert E. Lee
- Forrest Street - named after Ku Klux Klan founder Nathan Bedford Forrest
- Hood Street - named after Confederate General John B. Hood
The city voted in July to waive a requirement that would have required a majority of residents on each street to approve the change.
At least five of the city’s seven commissioners must vote in support of the measure for it to past.
