The car-sharing company Zipcar is partnering with Miami-Dade County officials to provide Metrorail riders with another way to get to their final destinations.
Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez announced that 10 Zipcar vehicles will be placed at five Metrorail stations as part of a new partnership.
The cars will be placed at the following stations:
- Coconut Grove
- Vizcaya
- Earlington Heights
- Hialeah
- Palmetto
The vehicles will allow for on-demand access to personal cars for commuters.
The cars will be available for reservation by the hour or by the day along the green and orange lines as part of a one-year pilot program aimed at reducing personal vehicle ownership, traffic, congestion and CO2 emissions.
Zipcar already has about 60 cars in Miami-Dade.
