An 83-year-old man is jailed in Palm Beach County, accused of killing his wife 30 years ago.
Sheriff's deputies arrested James O'Neil last night on a charge of manslaughter with a firearm.
Verna O'Neil was 50 when she was found shot to death in a home just outside the Lake Worth city limits on July 23rd, 1987. James O'Neil claimed that his wife had committed suicide.
The pair were married in November 1984. O’Neil remarried less than a year later, according to court records.
The sheriff’s office reopened the case in February. O'Neil was arrested Thursday night on one charge of manslaughter with a firearm.
O’Neil is being held on a $50,000 bond.
If released, the court has ordered him on in-house arrest. If released, a judge said he could live with his current wife.
