Person Dies After Playing In Traffic, Struggling With Ft. Lauderdale Police

Someone died while officers were attempting to take them into custody in Fort Lauderdale Saturday.

Officers were called about 4:30 p.m. on reports of an unidentified person acting strangely in the middle of traffic just outside Carter Park on West Sunrise Boulevard.

Police spokeswoman Casey Liening says officers tried to take the person into custody. Officers allegedly used pepper spray.

A struggle ensued, and officers took the person to the hospital, where they later died.

Police aren't saying whether the person was a man or a woman until next of kin can be notified.

The Fort Lauderdale police and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are investigating.
