The South Florida Water Management District has a new executive director. The man who held that job, Pete Antonacci, left in early July when the governor named him to head up Enterprise Florida.
Antonacci's being replaced by Ernie Marks, who was unanimously approved by the District board on Monday.
Marks joined the South Florida Water Management District last year as director of Everglades policy and coordination.
He has also worked for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the Florida Department of Environmental Regulation, and has 20 years of experience serving Florida's environment.
"Having worked with the employees of this great organization for over a decade and seeing how hard they work to get things right for South Florida, it is an immense honor to be chosen as their leader," Marks said. "These next several years are critical to the restoration of South Florida and I look forward to working with our Governing Board to ensure a successful mission."
Marks' new title and role become effective Wednesday.
