Sunrise Police Host "Pop-Up" Public BBQs With Intended Drug Money

The Sunrise Police department is putting recovered drug money to good use.

The department is hosting free, "pop-up" barbecues for the community, with money recovered in drug stings.

Sunrise police post the time and location of the barbecues (that have been happening once per month throughout the pat year) on social media.

Sunrise Mayor Robert Voss says young children are at first hesitant with the officers, but, by the end of the barbecue, they’re hugging them and saying goodbye.

Community member Mourice “Mo” Hylton says he attended his first BBQ by chance, and that it’s nice to see officers socializing and having fun instead of arresting people.
