It's the city of Orlando's 142nd birthday Monday, and to celebrate, the city is raising its new flag.
A design chosen in a public contest was approved last week by the city council. It features a blue, stylized version of downtown Orlando's iconic Lake Eola fountain encircled by a yellow letter "O." That's set against a background of white and blue.
The Orlando Flag Committee decided to recommend the new design to commissioners in June.
Mayor Buddy Dyer and city commissioners will be on hand as the flag makes its public debut Monday in an afternoon ceremony in front of City Hall.
Tim Eggert, who created the design, is a University of Central Florida graduate and graphic designer for an Orlando-based engineering firm.
