"Duty To Rescue Law" Being Petitioned For The State Of Florida

A petition is being circulated to create a Florida "duty to rescue" law, and it so far has 15,000 signatures.

The effort comes after five Central Florida teenagers near Cocoa were recently seen on video laughing, mocking and refusing to help a  disabled man who was drowning.

Currently, there is not a state law that makes it illegal to stand by and not help someone in distress.

Cocoa's police chief wants the teens to face an obscure charge of failing to report a death.

There are ten states that already have the law, which requires people to give aid to someone in a life threatening situation.

A separate "Good Samaritan" law is also being proposed that would protect Floridians from liability if they help someone in danger.
