The University of Florida has been ranked as the top four-year college in the state, according to a new study from Schools.com.
The study analyzed data from the U.S. Department of Education across 13 different metrics, including:
- Graduation rate
- Retention rate throughout four years
- Estimated cost of books
- Estimated cost of supplies
UF also ranked high on the national list (at number five!).
The No. 5 school among our best four-year colleges in the U.S. placed in the top 15 percent of all 1,649 schools we surveyed in more than half of the categories in our analysis. Southern Living named Gainesville one of its top college towns in the South, and the American Institute for Economic Research ranked it among the 20 best college towns of its size in 2016.
UF admins have also taken bold steps to accommodate fuel-free transportation for students. The school's 13 miles of bike lanes and 22 self-service bike repair stations earned it recognition as a bicycle-friendly university by the League of American Bicyclists.
The four other schools that round out the top five (from first to fourth) are:
- Ohio State University
- Texas A&M University - College Station
- University of Utah
- University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
