A man who may have been trying to steal a car was hit by a car and killed Saturday night.
Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies found 54-year-old Donald Sands unconscious and lying in the road. They later discovered Sands was fleeing from a potential vehicle burglary in a mobile home park in the St. Petersburg area.
Shelby Slocumb told deputies he'd seen Sands inside his car earlier and chased him away.
Sands was allegedly found with a red cup filled with change that Slocumb said was stolen from his car.
Authorities said Sands may have been homeless.
