Brevard County Falls Victim To Nation-Wide IRS Phone Scam

Residents in Brevard County are among the latest nationwide to fall victim to a round of scam phone calls.

The calls are coming from people pretending to be with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said in a Facebook post Friday that the callers claim their targets owe back taxes and threaten arrest if they don't pay up via money order, prepaid debit cards, iTunes cards or wire transfers from their bank.

The IRS does not make such phone calls.

If you get one, authorities recommend that you hang up immediately.
