Mosquito Spraying In Broward County

Now that we've had several days of heavy rain in South Florida, mosquito spraying is planned throughout Broward County.

Trucks will be spraying larvicide starting Monday until August 4th throughout the northern part of the county.

Mosquito Control has announced that the spraying of larvicide will be conducted using trucks beginning Monday through August 4 in the northern region of the county, the Mosquito Control Section announced Friday. Some areas of Parkland, Coral Springs, Margate, North Lauderdale, Tamarac and Sunrise will be targeted.

The spraying will target the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, which is known to carry transmit the Zika virus.

Areas that have been chosen for spraying on the basis of factors such as requests from the Florida Department of Health, population and number of women of childbearing age live in the areas, and official requests. Even though there are no active Zika cases in the county. 

The county urges residents and business owners to remove any standing water on their property to prevent mosquito breeding, bites and diseases.
