Florida GOP Candidate For Gov. Wants Guns Allowed On College Campuses

State Agricultural Commissioner, and the leading Republican contender for governor, says he supports allowing guns on college campuses.

Adam Putnam said Tuesday that there should be fewer "gun free zones" in Florida. Putnam also supports letting residents carry guns out in the open.

In recent years, state legislatures have considered several measures that would loosen gun restrictions, but have stalled.

Putnam is the main GOP candidate for governor, although several others may jump into the race. Several Democrats are also running.

Putnam oversees the office that processes concealed weapons permits, but still, there are places where even permit holders cannot have guns.

Legislators have proposed letting concealed weapon permit holders take their guns on university campuses. That measure has yet to passed.

Putnam would not say if he would repeal the ban on guns in stadiums.
