Disney Cruise Line announced that its fleet will grown to seven ships by 2023.
While news of two new ships had already been known, announcement of a third is now on order with Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.
The new order will move the timetable up for when the world will see the new ships. Previously, the ships were expected in 2021 and 2023. Now the three are expected consecutively in 2021, 2022 and 2023.
Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, says "...two ships wouldn’t be enough to hold all of the exciting new experiences we have been dreaming up to take family cruise vacations to a whole new level with immersive Disney storytelling, world-class family entertainment, and imaginative innovations that are fantastically fun and uniquely Disney.”
Chapek says that Disney Cruise Lines will nearly double the capacity of its existing fleet with the new additions.
