Keys Man Tells Officers 'That's My Gloves You Smell, Not Marijuana'

A Stock Island man told police that the smell of marijuana coming from his car was not weed, but a pair of latex work gloves he just purchased.

During a Wednesday afternoon traffic stop on 5th Street, the suspect said “[the gloves in my car] have a similar smell to marijuana,” according to the arrest report by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Police did not end up finding marijuana in the white Ford E250 truck belonging to 33-year-old Anthony Macias.

However, officers did find 16.4 grams of cocaine that Macias later admitted was for his personal use.

Also in the truck, police say they found 14 sandwich-sized plastic bags with the corners cut off, a digital scale, plastic bags with white residue and a bottle of dietary supplement typically used to cut cocaine.

Macias was pulled over because his truck’s tags had expired.
