Support Pet Adoption Events In Broward Friday and Saturday

Two great events will give people the chance to adopt a new furry friend or at least donate money to help the group which takes care of them until they can find forever homes.

The first is Friday afternoon from 12-4p, when some of the best local mobile chefs will set up shop at FAT Village in Fort Lauderdale and serve up dishes from your favorite local food trucks to help spotlight the local non-profit heroes, including the staff at the Broward County Humane Society. MCK Fusion Cafe and the Tacosaurus food truck will be among the vendors on hand.

If you aren't in the position to adopt a pet yourself, you can still come out and support those who care for local animals in need on Saturday afternoon in Plantation. New Body Architects will hold a "Charity Bootcamp" with donations going towards the HSBC.

The temperatures are likely to top 90* during both events so just like parents need to make sure their children stay hydrated during the hot summer months, pet owners need to make sure their four-legged friends get plenty of water as well.

"If it's hot for us, it's going to be hot for our pets," says Cherie Wachter from the Broward Humane Society. "It's really important to make sure that if you're taking your dog for a walk, you want to do it in the early morning or the late afternoon when the sun has gone down a little bit."

In addition to proper hydration, Wachter advises people to not leave pets outside for long periods of time.
