Miami-Dade Judge Throws Out Complaint Against Aerial Mosquito Spraying

A federal judge is not hearing any of it when it comes to residents in Miami-Dade trying to stop the county from its aerial spraying of the controversial pesticide Naled to combat mosquitoes.

The judge threw out a lawsuit on the matter Wednesday because he says there were errors in the complaint, it was brought against the wrong party, and that it may be out of his jurisdiction.

The county has used Naled for decades to fight mosquitoes in mangroves and marshes, but is now being criticized for expanding the spraying into urban neighborhoods.

The chemical is banned in several countries because of its effect on the environment, but now the American Academy of Pediatrics says it may also be harmful to children.
