The Fort Lauderdale Black Police Officers Association is hosting the 2017 Teen Summit Friday.
The Fort Lauderdale Black Police Officers Association says the community outreach event is a way for teens to learn how to interact with police, create a positive attitude toward law enforcement and keep them out of trouble. Fort Lauderdale Black Police Officers Association President, Officer Nina Justice, says it's an important lesson.
"Police officers are always trained on how we interact with the community and what we're bringing and the dynamic of it is, we're teaching our youth how to conduct themselves when there is an interaction with the police" said Officer Justice.
Other topics they'll touch on; social media posting, life skills and etiquette. There will be entertainment throughout the day, prizes and activities catered to the different age groups.
The free event is being held at Stranahan High School, 1800 SW 5th Place, Fort Lauderdale, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday. Breakfast and lunch will be served. It's for young adults between 11 and 18.
