Tuesday's MLB All-Star Game: What To Expect Tonight

If the American League walks away with a win at Tuesday night's MLB All-Star Game at Marlins Park, they would even the overall All-Star series record at 43-43(-2).

For this year's match up, Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon has tabbed the Washington Nationals' Max Scherzer (10-5, 2.10 ERA) as the National Leagues's starting pitcher. Clayton Kershaw, of the Los Angeles Dodgers, started on Sunday and will be skipping the All-Star Game.

The American League will see Boston Red Sox ace Chris Sale (11-4, 2.75) first on the mound, as he has gotten off to another strong start in his first year with the team. The six-time All-Star has the most strikeouts in baseball with 178, which is five more than NL leader Scherzer.

While the All-Star Game has historically been evenly matched, the last few decades have been tilted heavily in the American League's favor.

The AL has gone 22-6-1 in its last 29 games against the NL, shaking off a three-game winning streak by the NL from 2010 to 2012 with four straight wins.

The AL-leading Houston Astros will be represent three of the top five bats in the starting lineup with Jose Altuve, George Springer, and Carlos Correa. Monday night's Home Run Derby winner Aaron Judge will bat third.

Home-field advantage may not help the National League as the American League is 7-1 in its last eight games played in NL parks. But then again, the odds are only odds, and tonight's face off will ultimately have to speak for itself.
