A 71-year-old Lee County woman suffered injuries after she was bitten by a 10-foot-plus alligator Sunday.
San Carlos Park fire units responded shortly before 6 p.m. an animal bite/attack in the Shadow Wood Preserve gated community in Fort Myers. Genie Witzel was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital with injuries to the arms and legs.
Neighbors expressed dismay Monday that their neighbor went through such a horrific experience.
Witzel was allegedly tending to her garden at the time of the attack, about 20 feet from the edge of a lake.
Witzel was listed in fair condition in the ICU Monday at Lee Memorial.
