Judge Orders BSO To Release Patient On Life Support So Mom Can Visit

A judge has ordered the Broward Sheriff's office to release a critically ill woman from custody so her mother can visit her in the hospital.

State Circuit Judge Barbara Duffy has commanded the BSO to release 26-year-old Kristin Carare from custody. The sheriff's office had blocked Carare's mother, Lucy Moss, from visiting her in the hospital where she says the heroin addict is currently on life support.

Carare had been jailed for three months and was awaiting trial on drug possession charges before becoming severely ill last week while in custody. The Pompano Beach woman was originally arrested in September on other drug charges.

Moss traveled to Fort Lauderdale from Cleveland after learning of her daughter's condition. She was allowed two visits at Broward North Medical Center but then sheriff's officials said further visits would not be allowed, prompting the court order on Monday.

There is another hearing in the case set for Wednesday.

Broward Sheriff Scott Israel will discuss this case and other important public safety issues during his weekly South Florida's First News appearance coming up Wednesday morning at 9:22am on News Radio 610 WIOD and streaming live on the free iHeartRadio app.
