A 38-year-old Jacksonville man accidentally shot himself in his nether regions after sitting down on a gun.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says the gun was in the driver's seat of the mans car. Authorities say the man accidentally shot himself in the penis after sitting down on the firearm outside his Freedom Crossing Trail apartment.
The man allegedly ran into his girlfriend's house after the gun went off. She took him the hospital, where he had surgery.
JSO impounded the vehicle for evidence
The sheriff's office says he has a previous conviction for cocaine possession and may now be charged as a felon in possession of a firearm.
