Keys Lawmakers Consider New, Major Highway Toll

Lawmakers in the Florida Keys are considering tolling the main highway that links the popular chain of islands to the Florida mainland.

The Monroe County Board of County Commissioners unanimously voted Wednesday to conduct an impact study on tolling the Overseas Highway, which carries the southernmost portion of U.S. Highway One to Key West.

A spokesperson for Florida Department of Transportation says the state agency is against the plan, citing state and federal law they say makes that make it difficult to implement such a measure.
